It’s a Knockout!
Waltzers, Ferris Wheels, Face Painting and It’s A Knockout…. “What’s that got to do with Christmas?” you may ask, well actually nothing but we are not just all about Christmas and last weekend Team JD Parties spent the weekend at Knowsley Hall, organising a Staff Fun Day for a major high street retailer.
We were approached in May by the Retailer, who has attended our Christmas Parties for the last few years, and asked if we could help with organising an event for their staff. The Retailer wanted to say a big thank you for all their hard work and they wanted the weekend to be all about family, friends and having fun, so the JD Team kicked into action and we started planning an fun-packed, family event to take place over 3 days.
Our mission was to fill the weekend full of family attractions and activities, so 3 course Christmas meals were replaced by hotdogs and burgers, Christmas crackers were swapped for candy floss and ice cream and the lawn in front of Knowsley Hall was transformed into a Fairground Carnival for the weekend.
Family favourites the Dodgems, the Waltzers, a giant Ferris Wheel and little Tea Cups were set up, along with traditional fairground stalls such as a Coconut Shy and Tombola. The Penalty Shoot-out was one of the more popular stalls – and occasionally the Dads let their children have a go! The face painting tent had queues all weekend and it wasn’t just the children queuing! The Circus skills went down a treat, it was so funny watching grown men trying to hula hoop or ride a unicycle!!
The weekend gave staff the opportunity to try something new such as clay pigeon shooting, which against the backdrop of Knowsley Hall was definitely worth a go. The rock climbing wall was very popular with the children and it was lovely to see them develop their confidence from being unsure about having a go, to climbing to the very top and then abseiling down.
300 lucky people managed to get a ticket for the Helicopter Ride and the buggy ride to the launch field ended up being one of the highlights of the weekend.
In the main arena in the middle of the lawn, we had organised events such as a Falcon and Vulture display, it was hilarious watching everyone ‘duck’ as the birds flew straight at them, missed them and swooped away at the very last minute. ‘Ferret-sniffing’ went down a treat, the kids thought it was great and wanted to get as close up as possible. But one of the main highlights of the weekend was the Inter-Branch It’s a Knock-out Competition which took place between staff from different branches. It was pure team work, involved lots of water – looked very much like hard work – but was buckets of fun, full of team-spirit and cheered on by hundreds of spectators; the teams were exhausted by the end of it but mainly through laughing so much!
The whole weekend was a fantastic opportunity for the staff to feel appreciated by their employers and it was so lovely to see so many happy, smiling faces all day long. It was a pleasure to be a part of the event and an honour to work with such a great team of people and we can’t wait to do it again next year!Back To News
