Welcoming thousands of visitors from all over the world, the Manchester Christmas Markets take place in multiple locations across the city centre. This is arguably the best time to visit the thriving metropolis, which transforms into a festive wonderland of wooden chalets and busy market stalls selling an outstanding range of artisan products.

About Manchester Christmas Markets

The Manchester Christmas Markets are held in ten districts in the city centre, ranging from the Grade II-Listed 19th-century Corn Exchange to 18th-century King Street, now an upmarket shopping district. All of the markets are open between November 10th and December 21st, so you’ll have plenty of time to do all your Christmas shopping.

What to see

The European Christmas Market takes place at Albert Square and is overlooked by Manchester’s impressive Grade I-Listed Town Hall. Others markets include the World Christmas Market on Brazennose Street, the German Christmas Market at St Ann’s Square, and the French Christmas Market on King Street. Try mouth-watering local and international delicacies, and find some great souvenir gifts for family and friends.

Enjoy a glass of champagne at Champers on King Street, discover the delicious Northern Soul grilled cheese sandwich at the Northern Quarter, and don’t forget to try the Belgian waffles at the Belgian stalls. You’ll also find scrumptious Christmas tree brownies and plenty of other festive specialities on other stalls throughout the city centre.

If you love the good old British pie, then don’t forget to visit the George and Shelley’s Pie Shop at Cathedral Gardens. Treat yourself to a mouth-watering artisan savoury pie, a glass of mulled gin, or a fresh mince pie with brandy cream.

Visit Exchange Square

At Exchange Square, don’t forget to visit the Tikka Kebab Kitchen, where you can try a delicious lamb kebab, chicken tikka or other excellent wraps and curries. The perfect way to keep warm on those nippy winter evenings!

The Exchange Square is also the location of the Arts and Crafts Market, where you’ll find more hand-crafted gift items and artworks from prominent local artists.

Go ice-skating

In 2016, Manchester Christmas Markets includes an ice rink for the very first time. Open between November 4th and January 8th, it’s right next to the family funfair and just moments from the National Football Museum and Manchester Victoria station.
